Hollybush Wood Open Morning

On a sunny Saturday morning Friends of Standen Estate celebrated receiving a grant of £2,000 from North Mid Sussex County Local Committee Community Initiative Funding. We wanted an opportunity to express our thanks to our Local County Councillors and Town Councillors for the support they have given to us, since we formed the group 5 years ago. The grant will be used to buy the materials for the Woods volunteers to extend the boardwalk to promote access around Hollybush Wood. This ancient woodland is now being managed traditionally by volunteers under the guidance of James Masters, the Head Gardener at Standen, and Trudie Jacobs, the Assistant Woodland Warden.
The occasion was attended by the East Grinstead mayor, John Saull and his wife, as well as Town Councillors and Mandy Thomas-Atkin, the Chairwoman of Mid Sussex District Council. Robert Morley (National Trust Regional Chairman London & South East), who along with the Honourable Nicholas Soames MP attended the Barn Opening in May this year, was also present to support us at this event.
We also wanted to show all the volunteers at Standen some of the projects our Wood Volunteers get involved with in this ancient ghyll woodland. Visitors were shown our boardwalk through the woods and were told how we intend to extend it further, thanks to the grant.
Our thanks to everyone who helped out on the day and made this a successful event, and also to those who came along to support us.
